This may not have been the tournament that the Cardinals were hoping to play in, but they fought through an ugly game to beat NKU 66-58. The Cards came out flat shooting 35% in the first quarter and only 13% in the second quarter. Luckily, NKU was held to only 34% shooting for the game and turned the ball over 14 times to give the Cards the victory.
Louisville was led by Deng Adel, who scored 20 points including going 6 for 6 from the field in the 4th quarter. Ray Spalding had an off night offensively, but he did grab 13 rebounds. The Cards shot 72% from the free throw line, but only 33% from the 3-point line, which was moved back to the international length.
Louisville will play the winner of Middle Tennessee State and Vermont later this week at the KFC Yum! Center. The day and times will be announced after the completion of the first round.
