Louisville vs Mississippi State: Pregame Breakdown

After thoroughly dismantling Middle Tennessee in the 2nd round, the Louisville Cardinals had to quickly shift their focus to tonight’s game against Mississippi State. The game is set to tip-off at 9pm in the Yum! Center and will be televised on ESPN.

Mississippi State defeated Nebraska in the 1st round and Baylor in the second round to get to this point. They’re led by brothers Quinndary and Nick Weatherspoon. Quinndary leads the team in scoring with 14.4 points per game and Nick is the second leading scorer at 10.9 points per game. Quinndary hit a three-pointer at the buzzer against Baylor to send the Bears home.

Mississippi State does a decent job on defense when it comes to blocking shots and getting steals. Their numbers on the season are just behind Louisville in both categories, 6.1 blocks per game to 5.4 and 7.0 steals per game to 6.6. However, State scores an average of 3 points fewer than Louisville (76.1 to 73.6) and gives up 5 more points (63 to 68). Louisville’s average margin of victory is 13, Mississippi State’s is only 5.

I think Louisville is just the better team tonight, I think Ray Spalding will have another big game and the shots from deep will continue to fall as long as they’re in rhythm and not forced. Louisville wins big tonight.
