Cards Open With A Split Of The Orange

Yesterday, the Cardinals started a 3 game series with Syracuse. They played a double header on Friday to be prepared for strong weather coming in on the East Coast. Here is a recap of each of the games:

Game 1: Cards: 3  Syracuse 2

Junior Megan Hensley provided the Cardinals with the power they needed at bat and pitching. She struck out 8 batters in pitching a complete game. Hensley picked up her 12th win of the season. Megan also connected on a 2 run home run in the 1st inning. The Cards scored 2 in the first and never looked back. Alexa Romero picked up the loss after allowing 3 in 4.2 innings pitched. The Cards pushed across another run in the 5th inning. Syracuse tried to come back scoring two runs in the bottom 5th wasn’t enough to catch the Cards.

Game 2:  Cards: 3  Syracuse: 4

Cards got behind the Orange 2-0 and couldn’t get amount enough for a comeback. Senior Nicole Pufahl went 3-3 with a double and 2 RBI’s. Freshman Maddy Newman also contributed with a 2-3 day with a double & 1 RBI’s. Freshman Danielle Watson pitched 6 innings giving up 3 runs. Kyra Synder came in relief for Watson and gave up 1 run in 2/3 innings.
