Cards In The Pros: End of August Update

Corey Ray launched another home run this week and is now 3 home runs away from 30 on the season.  Ray was officially named the MVP of the Southern League after putting together a tremendous season for the Biloxi Shuckers.  

Adam Engel continues to stay hot this week for the White Sox who have caught a new surge of energy in the last few weeks. Josh Rogers picked up the win in his Major League Debut for the Orioles.

Major Leagues

Adam Duvall went hitless in 6 games this week, mostly off the bench in pinch hit roles for the Atlanta Braves.  

 

Adam Engel stays hot in the second half of the season by hitting .370 this week with 3 doubles and a home run to go along with 2 RBI’s and 1 stolen base.  

 

Chad Green was nearly perfect in his 1.2 innings of work this week striking out 3 with a few hits sprinkled in.  

 

Josh Rogers was great in his Major League Debut picking up the win after going 5 innings, striking out 2 and giving up 3 earned runs for the Baltimore Orioles.   

 

AAA

Matt Koch went a stellar 7 innings of 4 hit ball in his start this week as he took the win for the Aces.  

 

Kyle McGrath had a pretty clean inning of work in his only outing this week.  He allowed two base runners via the walk but did not anyone else on.

 

Cole Sturgeon was placed on the 7 day disabled list with a foot contusion on August 23rd.  

 

Dean Kiekhefer was roughed up a bit this week, pitching twice and totaling 3 innings of work that saw him give up 4 earned runs with only 1 strikeout.      

 

Chris Dominguez hit .250 for Syracuse with a pair of RBI’s.

 

Will Smith hit safely twice in 5 games for Oklahoma City.    

 

Nick Burdi threw 4 innings across 3 different outings and gave up 1 earned run while striking out 3, one hitter in each appearance for Indianapolis.  

 

Zack Burdi on his rehab assignment gave up 1 hit in 1.2 innings of work and did not record a strike out.  

 

Kyle Funkhouser went down with a fractured foot after stumbling over a broken piece of sidewalk and unfortunately his strong season has come to an end prematurely.  Between AA and AAA this year, Funk was 4-7 with a 3.96 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and had 96 strikeouts in 97.2 innings.

 

AA

Derek Self was sent back to AA on the 23rd and pitched twice since being moved back down, totaling 3.2 innings of shutout baseball.  

 

Jeff Arnold went 2/12 for Richmond.

 

Nick Solak batted .142 for Montgomery with 1 home run and 2 RBI’s.   

 

Corey Ray hit just .115 for Biloxi but he did launch another home run bringing his total to 27 on the year.  There is still time left for Ray to get 3 more as he makes his way to the 30/30/30 club.

 

Grant Kay was placed on the 7 day DL at the start of the season.  

 

Jared Ruxer was released on 5/23 by the Kansas City Royals  

 

Joe Filomeno was released on 4/23 by the Texas Rangers.

 

A Advanced

Drew Ellis only collected 2 hits this week after mashing last for Visalia, thats baseball for you.  

 

Lincoln Henzman was a starter in two games this week that were almost identical.  They both went 3 innings, and he did not give up an earned run or stike a batter out in those 6 innings for Winston Salem.  

 

Devin Hairston hit .136 for Carolina.

 

Brendan McKay went 1-8 in 2 games as a hitter this week, and on the mound this week he was strong through 4 innings, striking out 3 and giving up 1 earned runs.   

 

Blake Tiberi put together a strong week in the Florida State League, driving in 4 RBI’s and hitting .308 with 2 doubles.  

 

Jeff Thompson was released by the Detroit Tigers on July 21st.  

 

A

Colby Fitch had 2 hits and an RBI in 3 games for Lakewood.   

 

Drew Harrington started twice for Kanapolis, and pitched well in both starts despite taking the loss in the first start.  In the first start he went 6 innings and gave up 3 earned runs while striking out 5. His second start was a dominant 7 innings with 5 strikeouts and 1 earned run allowed.  

 

Devin Mann slugged 2 doubles, 1 home run and knocked in 6 RBI’s while hitting .238.  

 

Kade McClure was placed on the 7 day DL on May 14th.  

 

Dace Kime retired from professional baseball on June 16th.  

 

A Short Season

Josh Stowers hit .167 for Everette to go along with 2 RBI’s and 3 stolen bases.  

 

Adam Wolf’s most recent start was a dominant 3 innings of work where he gave up 3 hits, 0 runs and struck out 4.  

 

Riley Thompson put together a solid start for Eugene, after he gave up 3 hits and struck out 5 in 4.2 innings of work.  

 

Rookie Level

Liam Jenkins threw 1 inning, gave up 2 earned runs on 1 hit but struck out 2 for the AZL Indians.  

 

Austin Conway pitched twice this week totaling 3 innings while not allowing a run and only giving up 1 hit for the Voyagers.
