Louisville improved to 5-1 in the ACC as the Cardinals held on to outlast NC State 84-77 at home Thursday night.
Christen Cunningham led the Cards with 17 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Cardinals scored in double figures.
For NC State, Braxton Beverly led the way with 19 points on 5 threes, and Torin Dorn added 18 for the Wolfpack.
Louisville held a lead for most of the first half and the entire second half. NC State had a big run in both halves to keep it close for the majority of the game. The Wolfpack out-rebounded Louisville 57-38, but turned the ball over 23 times in the loss.
This was another big win for Louisville. The Cards are now 14-5 and 5-1 in the ACC under Chris Mack in his first year as head coach. Louisville is tied atop the conference standings with Virginia, Duke, North Carolina and Syracuse.
This win was more impressive to me considering the team scored 42 points in each half despite only getting 3-12 shooting and no three pointers from Jordan Nwora. The offense looked one-dimensional earlier in the season, but this team is starting to put it together consistently on that end. There is plenty of work to do, but you’ve got to like where this Louisville Basketball team is going right now.
