Louisville baseball entered the 2019 season with high expectations, as a team ranked as high as fourth in the country and a prohibitive favorite to return to Omaha.
Add “preseason ACC favorite” to their expectations in 2019. The Cardinals were selected as the preseason favorite to win the ACC Atlantic Division, as well as the entire conference in 2019.
Louisville narrowly edged Florida State in the preseason voting, earning seven first-place votes and 90 points to be voted as the Atlantic Division favorites. The Seminoles weren’t too far behind, earning 86 points and six first-place votes. Clemson, another team that has been ranked in most top 25 polls this preseason, finished third with 71 points and one first-place vote.
In the Coastal Division, North Carolina was overwhelmingly selected as the favorite, earning 13 of 14 first-place votes and 97 points. Virginia was the only other team in the Coastal with a first-place vote, finishing second in preseason voting with 64 points.
Louisville begins its 2019 season on Friday, February 15th (through February 17th) with a weekend series against Connecticut. The Cards open their home slate on February 20th with an in-state matchup against Eastern Kentucky at 3:00 p.m. ET.
