On Friday, the Louisville Cardinal Softball team competed in day one of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
During game one, the Cards jumped out to an 8-3 lead going into the final inning of play. Northwestern added 5 runs at the top of the 7th inning before scoring the winning run at the top of 9th inning. Senior Megan Hensley had a home run as well as a triple. Northwestern was able to suppress the Cardinals as they striked out four times over the course of the last three innings. The Cards dropped to 3-3 on the season.
Northwestern: 9 Cards: 8
During game two of the afternoon, the Cards took on #16 Michigan Wolverines. The Cards offense couldn’t get going during the game. Michigan’s strong pitching shut out the Cardinals. Danielle Watson pitched only two innings giving up five runs before turning over to redshirt freshman Taylor Roby who would finish the game.
