Cards Travel To Marshall

The Cardinals traveled to Huntington, West Virginia to take on the Thundering Herd in the last non-conference game of the season. The Herd jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a two run homerun. The top of the 5th inning started with two singles from the Cards. Then, Maddy Newman had a base hit and Funke ground out plated two runs to tie it 2-2. Rebecca Chung’s home run at the top of the 6th inning gave the Cardinals the 3-2 lead. The Thundering Herd answered with a two runs in the bottom of the 6th inning giving them a 4-3 lead going into the 7th inning. Celene Funke started the inning with a double followed by Sidney Melton who connected on a triple to tie the game at 4-4. Then, Megan Hensley hit a double to score Melton and to give the Cards a 5-4 lead. Redshirt Freshman Taylor Roby pitched the Cards to a win which gave her a 13-1 record on the season.
