Louisville Climbs Up This Week’s AP and Coaches Polls

Louisville Men’s Basketball  has been utterly dominant in its first 4 games of the season. They went 2-0 last week, beating Indiana State 91-62 and NC Central 87-58. They currently sit at 4-0 and have largely been untested in those four contests. This dominance, coupled with the faltering of teams ahead of them, resulted in Louisville vaulting to number 2 in both the AP Top 25 Poll and USA TODAY Coaches Poll.

The Cards received 8 first place votes in the newly released AP poll while only receiving 1 first place vote in the coaches poll.

Duke is the new number 1 and Michigan State is right behind the Cards and Duke at number 3 in both polls. Kansas at 4 and North Carolina at 5 round out the top 5 in the AP Poll. They also round out the top 5 of the coaches poll, but with North Carolina at 4 and Kansas at 5.

The rest of the AP Poll top 10 has Maryland at 6, defending national champion Virginia at 7, Gonzaga at 8, last week’s number 1 Kentucky (who plummeted after losing at home to Evansville), and Ohio State at 10.

The coaches poll has the same group of teams rounding out the top 10, but in a different order. Defending champion Virginia is at 6, Maryland is at 7, Gonzaga is at 8, Ohio State is at 9, and UK is at 10.

Louisville looks to continue its dominance over inferior competition when they face off against South Carolina Upstate at 7 pm on Wednesday and then Akron at 6 pm on Sunday. Both games will be at the KFC Yum! Center.
