Redshirt freshman RB Javian Hawkins had an amazing season for Louisville Football. He rushed for 1420 yards and 8 TDs for the Cards and that caught the eye of one USA TODAY writer. Paul Myerberg listed 10 players to watch in the 2020 Heisman race and Javian Hawkins is one of the 10.
The premise of the article is that guys that many players that were in the Heisman race this season will be leaving for the NFL. Only one Heisman finalist, Ohio State QB Justin Fields, is expected to return. That leaves an obvious void for new players to fill. Myerberg believes Hawkins numbers this season could make him a premier RB in the country next season and generate some Heisman buzz for him.
The fact Javian Hawkins has grabbed the attention of a national writer is a testament to his talent and to the job this coaching staff has done. It will be interesting to see how Hawkins follows up his highly successful redshirt freshman season, especially with the loss of OT Mekhi Becton to the NFL. Louisville fans will at least get a preview of what Hawkins may do next season in the bowl game as Becton has elected not to play.
