TWICA: February 4th

Welcome back CardNation, to your weekly recap of all Louisville athletics! What a week it has been right? Between Lamar getting his MVP, Donovan being named an All Star, to our men’s and women’s basketball teams being top 5 in the country, its great to be a Card! Let’s get into it!

#10/#19 Swimming and Diving

Our swimming and diving teams had 1 meet this week, against the #4/#21 Hoosiers of Indiana. The women defeated Indiana by a score of 156.5-143.5, while the men suffered a loss by a score of 171-129. This was also senior night, with Louisville honoring 19 seniors. Congrats go out to these 19 seniors for a successful career:  Andrej Barna, Sam Steele, Avery Braunecker, Michaela Slinely, Graham Barrett, Keegan Foulke, Jarrett Jones, Sasha Palazzo, Sean Riley, Derek Sander, Sam Steele, Chase Sellers, Casey Fanz, Molly Fears, Nastja Govejsek, Maggie Jahns, Grace Oglesby, Brianna Price, Sofie Underdahl, and Lainey Visscher.

This Week: IDLE

Men’s Tennis (5-2, 1-0)

The Cards lost their only match up of the week, falling to Northwestern by a score of 1-4.

This Week: Friday, February 7th: Vs Oregon (4 PM)

Sunday, February 9th: Vs Boston College (Noon)

Women’s Tennis (6-1)

The Cards had 2 matches over the past week, beating Lipscomb 5-2, but falling to Furman 1-6 (the Furman loss actually being the first of the season for the Cards).

This Week: IDLE

Track & Field

With the indoor season in full swing, our Cards traveled to the Power Five Invitational this past weekend, coming out with 2 individual wins. Senior Rashida Harris picking up her 3rd straight win of the season in the shot put, finishing with a indoor personal best of 15.71m/51-06.50. Freshman Trey Allen also won his second High Jump of the season with a mark of 2.08m/6-09.75. Congrats go out to these two Cards!

This Week: First scrimmage of the season At SMU

Softball

The softball team will be traveling to Clearwater, Florida to participate in the NFCA Leadoff Classic. Opponents will include #21 Ole Miss (Feb. 7 at Noon), Baylor (Feb. 7 at 2:30 PM), Texas State (Feb. 8 at 10 AM), Mississippi State (Feb. 8 at 3 PM), and Missouri (Feb. 9 at 10 AM).

Lacrosse

The first Lacrosse game of the season will be held on Sunday, February 9th, at Cincinnati (1 PM)

#5 Women’s Basketball (21-1, 10-0)

The Cards had 2 games on the docket this week, as in game 1 they traveled to South Bend to take on Notre Dame. They won handedly 86-54.

Next, in an exhibition match up, the Cards took on the touring Women’s National Team. While they were up after 1 quarter of action, they ended up falling by a score of 97-54.

This Week: Thursday, February 6th: Vs #17 Florida State (Red Out/Thirsty Thursday, 8 PM, ACC Network)

Sunday, February 9th: At Syracuse (2 PM, ESPN2/ACC Network)

#5 Men’s Basketball (19-3, 10-1)

Two games were in “The Cards” this past week. In the first game, the Cards overcame a slow start in Chestnut Hill to beat Boston College 86-69.

Next, we had a pretty tough test in Raleigh, but came out with the W against NC State by a score of 77-57.

This Week: Wednesday, February 5th: Vs Wake Forest (9 PM, ESPN2)

Saturday, February 8th: Vs Virginia (4 PM, ESPN) (A sidenote: I’ll be at this game! If we haven’t met I’ll be glad to meet all of you guys!)
