Javian Hawkins Earns Preseason All-American Honor From Sporting News

Louisville RB Javian Hawkins had a breakout year as a redshirt freshman. The native of Titusville, FL exploded onto the national scene with one of the best seasons ever by a Cardinal RB. Now, one of the best sports publications in America has named Hawkins an preseason All-American.

Sporting News released their 2020 preseason All-Americans and Hawkins finds himself named to the Second-team offense. Joining him are the likes of Ohio State QB Justin Fields, Alabama RB Najee Harris, Alabama OT Deonte Brown, and Purdue WR (and Louisville area native) Rondale Moore. That’s excellent company to keep.

It makes perfect sense as to why Javian Hawkins is thought of so highly by Sporting News. He rushed for 1525 yards and 9 TDs last season; this after everyone assumed during the summer that Hassan Hall would be the main RB. Those 1525 yards broke the school rushing record for a RB and the UofL freshman rushing record. He earned All-ACC second team honors and got some national pub as well.

Most people project Javian Hawkins to improve upon his numbers and push for the 2000 yard mark. In fact, in some way-too-early Heisman odds, Hawkins is showing up. While getting to NYC will be difficult, it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
