Cardinals Forever Made Their WNBA Debuts

The WNBA began it’s 2020 season over the weekend. Although a different set up, it was the same great action. The season started with both teams leaving the floor as the National Anthem played, and both teams having a short message in support of Breonna Taylor.

The first game of the WNBA season was the debut of former Oregon Ducks superstar and #1 pick in the draft Sabrina Ionescu. Former UofL center Kylee Shook, who was drafted by the New York Liberty, also made her WNBA debut.

Kylee played 12 minutes, scored 2 points, and had 1 rebound.

Jazmine Jones was also drafted by the Liberty, but logged in a DNP. Although Jones didn’t play, she was very active on the bench cheering on and encouraging her teammates like we saw her do for four years at Louisville.

In the nightcap of opening day, the Washington Mystics, last year’s champions, blew out the Indiana Fever. The Mystics were led by former Louisville forward Myisha Hines-Allen.

Hines-Allen led all scorers with 27 points in 28 mins and also made an impact on the boards with 10 rebounds.

On Sunday, former Louisville great and 2009 #1 overall pick Angel McCoughtry scored 25 points in her season debut for the Las Vegas Aces.

The Aces were edged out by the Chicago Sky 88-86. McCoughtry also added 8 rebounds and 2 assists, showing glimpses of the Angel McCoughtry Louisville fans are used to seeing.

McCoughtry missed the entire 2019 WNBA season with a season-ending knee injury. Atlanta didn’t resign Angel, allowing Las Vegas to sign her.
