UofL WBB Postgame Recap vs DePaul Blue Demons

Pregame Notes:

Louisville looks to hit the 3-0 mark this season as they take on the 20th rank DePaul Blue Demons. DePaul comes in as the highest scoring team in the country (109.5ppg). While Louisville averages 87.5 points through 2 games. DePaul leads the overall series 17-15 over Louisville, including a 73-72 last year.

1st Quarter:

The Cards start off the quarter on an 11-3 run, fueled by them taking advantage of their speed in transition. Kianna Smith comes off the bench and provides an early spark for the Cards, as she scores 11. UofL led DePaul by six after the 1st quarter, despite having six turnovers.

2nd Quarter:

The Cards got off to a quick 4-0 run and expanded their lead to 10 points, forcing DePaul’s coach to call a timeout. Louisville went on a 17-2 run, going  back to the first quarter. The Cards pick up their defense in the quarter as they held DePaul to only 13 points. Cards outscored DePaul 31-13 in the quarter and took a 61-37 lead into halftime.

3rd Quarter:

Olivia Cochran gets the scoring started for Louisville with the assist by Dana Evans. Again, Louisville starts the quarter off on a run and forces DePaul to call an early timeout. Cards up 72-40. With 3:30 left in the quarter, the Cards set 13-14 from the field. Louisville only needed three quarters to match their score from last game. Louisville leads DePaul 101-54 going into the fourth quarter.

4th Quarter:

Louisville started off the quarter shooting free throws, as DePaul’s Morris picked up a technical foul at the end of the third quarter. Coach Walz had his team well prepared and hungry, as they continued to stymie the DePaul off well into the quarter. Louisville sets a new school scoring mark in a game with 116, topping their 115 point total against Murray State. DePaul finished the game on a 10-0 run, but Louisville still won 116-75.

Kianna Smith finished with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists in her first game in a Louisville jersey. Hailey Van Lith and Kianna Smith led Louisville in scoring with 21 points each. Olivia Cochran led Louisville with 10 rebounds and a Mykasa  Robinson chipped in with 5 rebounds. Dana Evans had 7 assists to lead the team.
