Two Louisville Men’s Basketball Assistant Coaches Will Not Have Contracts Renewed

Two Louisville Men’s Basketball assistant coaches will not have their contracts renewed. While UofL declined to name the assistants citing it as a personnel matter, it has been widely reported by numerous local sports reporters the coaches are Dino Gaudio and Luke Murray.

Murray and Gaudio both joined Mack at Louisville right after he was hired as head coach. Murray had been an assistant with Mack at Xavier for three seasons prior to his three-year stint here. He was the lead recruiter on some of Louisville’s 2019 class, including David Johnson and Samuell Williamson.

Gaudio was a television analyst and, before that, a highly successful assistant coach and head coach at Xavier and Wake Forest, among other stops. While he was known for his Xs and Os, Gaudio did help as a recruiter, especially with the incoming class. Specifically, he was the lead recruiter for the future Cardinal backcourt duo of El Ellis and Bobby Pettiford Jr.

After a disappointing season, Mack had mentioned in a postseason presser that both roster and staff changes were coming. While Murray and Gaudio had done good jobs, it’s hard to argue that something had to change. Yet, it is sad to see the amiable Dino Gaudio and the diligent Murray be let go.

Now Card Nation waits as Coach Mack begins the process of finding two new assistants to fill out the staff. We here at CSZ would like to wish the two coaches the best of luck in their future endeavors.
