It’s open season on the recruiting front and Louisville men’s basketball is hitting the trail determined. On the first day colleges are allowed to officially offer prospective recruits, Louisville issued a slew of offers to players from the class of 2023. Below, you will see which players have been officially offered by UofL.
Kaleb Glenn
Blessed to receive an offer from Coach Mack and the University of Louisville #AGTG #CardNation @CoachChrisMack @LouisvilleMBB pic.twitter.com/gHwZIX6C0u
— 𝓚𝓪𝓵𝓮𝓫 𝓖𝓵𝓮𝓷𝓷☝🏽 (@ka1ebglenn) June 15, 2021
- Position: SF
- Rating: 4 Star
- Height: 6’6
- Weight: 200 lbs
- High School: Louisville Male
- Hometown: Louisville, KY
- National Rank: 44th
- Position Rank: 9th
- Offers: 8–Louisville, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Arizona State, West Virginia, Wake Forest, Western Kentucky, and South Carolina.
Kaleb Glenn is a hometown player with ties to the school. His father played football for the Cards. The 6’7 standout is Uber athletic and a force on both ends of the court. He plays above the rim, isn’t afraid to post up, and can hit the outside shot. He’s still developing his skills, but Glenn’s raw talent is something that coaches will be salivating over. Hopefully, Louisville can keep him home.
Caleb Foster
Extremely excited and beyond blessed to receive an offer from the University of Louisville #GoCards @Sim_Frazier @TeamCurry @thecoresports @OHACoachSmith @CoachJonesMPB pic.twitter.com/uj7jmgyL8q
— Caleb Foster (@iamcalebfoster) June 15, 2021
- Position: PG
- Rating: 5 Star
- Height: 6’2
- Weight: 170 lbs
- High School: Oak Hill Academy
- Hometown: Mouth of Wilson, VA
- National Rank: 21st
- Position Rank: 4th
- Offers: 7-Louisville, Illinois, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, and College of Charleston.
Caleb Foster is worthy of his ranking in the top 5 of his position for this class. He’s really fast, but understands how to play under control. The ball seems like it’s attached to a string when he dribbles and he’s able to change pace with his dribble to weave through defenses. He’s an excellent shooter in the mid-range and from the arc. Any coach would want Foster running their offense and hopefully the coach that will have him do that is Coach Mack.
Maki Johnson
Extremely blessed and excited to have received an offer from the University of Louisville 🔴⚪️ @LouisvilleMBB pic.twitter.com/EIDlPpgbSv
— Maki Johnson (@MakiJohnson3) June 15, 2021
- Position: CG
- Rating: 3 Star
- Height: 6’3
- Weight: 180 lbs
- High School: Teays Valley Christian School
- Hometown: Scott Depot, WV
- National Rank: 72nd
- Position Rank: 14th
- Offers: 8-Louisville, Kansas, Auburn, Maryland, Nebraska, Penn State, Virginia Tech, and Xavier.
Maki Johnson is one of the premiere shooters in the 2023 class. He’s got NBA range and he’s not afraid to let it fly. He’s a good ball handler and can get in the lane when he wants. He’s got great touch around the rim and has toughness evidenced in his ability to finish through contact. If a coach looking for an off guard to drain threes and slash into the lane, Johnson is a guy you target; which is why Coach Mack is targeting him.
Reed Sheppard
Blessed to have received an offer from The University of Louisville! pic.twitter.com/RcUTxK4Hvr
— reed sheppard (@reed_sheppard) June 15, 2021
- Position: CG
- Rating: 3 Star
- Height: 6’2
- Weight: 170 lbs
- High School: North Laurel
- Hometown: London, KY
- National Rank: 65th
- Position Rank: 12th
- Offers: 9-Louisville, Texas A&M, Arizona State, Iona, Iowa, High Point, College of Charleston, Stetson, and South Alabama.
Reed Sheppard is a pure shooter, much as his dad was. He can hit a jumper from virtually anywhere on the offensive side of the court. It’s not all he does, though. Sheppard has long arms that allow him to block shots and get deflections defensively. He can play point. He understands how to get to whatever spot he wants and get his shot. He’s got great court vision and is a very good passer. Coach Mack is definitely targeting a certain type of guard and Reed Sheppard fits that mold.
Lawrent Rice
Extremely blessed to receive an offer from The University of Louisville❤️🖤!! #gocards pic.twitter.com/nqtxB0OZT4
— Lawrent (@LawrentRice) June 15, 2021
- Position: CG
- Rating: 3 Star
- Height: 6’3
- Weight: 170 lbs
- High School: Wayne
- Hometown: Dayton, OH
- National Rank: 70th
- Position Rank: 13th
- Offers: 5-Louisville, Ohio State, Purdue, Kansas State, and West Virginia.
A pure scorer that can score at all three levels is a description that fits Lawrent Rice. He can get into the lane and hit little jumpers and floaters. He can hit pull-up mid-range shots. He can hit 3-pointers off the catch, off the bounce, and with a nasty step-back. Lawrent Rice is a bucket getter and he can hit his shot even when well defended. He’s a prototypical Chris Mack guard.
Jared McCain
Had a great talk with Coach Mac and blessed to say I’ve been offered by Louisville 🔴⚪️ pic.twitter.com/VNRuUVAnRk
— Jared Mccain (@J_mccain_24) June 15, 2021
- Position: SG
- Rating: N/A
- Height: 6’2
- Weight: 175 lbs
- High School: Centennial
- Hometown: Corona, CA
- National Rank: N/A
- Position Rank: N/A
- Offers: 4-Louisville, USC, Texas Tech, and Eastern Washington.
Jared McCain can make it rain from NBA range. Shooting is something Chris Mack is putting a premium on in recruiting and McCain is yet another excellent shooter. He’s a tough shot maker that is also a willing and good passer. He has the size and ability to thrive in Chris Mack’s offense. I’m guessing McCain will be a top 100 player eventually. My guess is he suffered from lack of exposure because of the pandemic.
Taison Chatman
Truly blessed to receive an offer from Coach Mack and The University of Louisville🙏🏽‼️ pic.twitter.com/QdEZP3GrrU
— Taison Chatman (@tchat04) June 15, 2021
- Position: SG
- Rating: 5 Star
- Height: 6’3
- Weight: 170 lbs
- High School: Totino-Grace
- Hometown: Minneapolis, MN
- National Rank: 26th
- Position Rank: 4th
- Offers: 6-Louisville, Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, Marquette, and Nebraska.
An excellent shooter and high level athlete, Taison Chatman is worthy of his lofty ranking. He can hit his shot in a variety of ways, with a particularly deadly step back. Chatman can shred defenses and finish through contact at the rim. He plays hard, but with a smoothness to his game. Louisville being his first big school offer will hopefully go a long way in landing this Uber talented guard.
George Washington III
Blessed to receive an offer from @CoachChrisMack @LouisvilleMBB #GoCards pic.twitter.com/JSVoWlQbU8
— George Washington lll (@3dubbshoop) June 15, 2021
- Position: CG
- Rating: 3 Star
- Height: 6’2
- Weight: 165 lbs
- High School: Christian Academy of Louisville
- Hometown: Louisville, KY
- National Rank: 74th
- Position Rank: 15th
- Offers: 3-Louisville, Auburn, and Ohio State.
Another Louisville native, George Washington III is a shooter slasher. He’s got a nice shooting stroke and he is very good at getting to the rim. When he gets there, he can finish with a variety of shots. Washington is a good ball handler as well. He’s another tough guard unafraid to attack the rim. It’s obvious why Chris Mack offered the up-and-coming local product.
Brandon White
After a great FaceTime conversation @CoachChrisMack Blessed to receive a offer from the university of Louisville❤️@josephadams29 @CoachAntonioLow pic.twitter.com/FkyFF7LRf7
— Brandon white (@GiantBean6) June 15, 2021
- Position: C
- Rating: 3 Star
- Height: 6’10
- Weight: 240 lbs
- High School: Winston Salem Christian School
- Hometown: Winston Salem, NC
- National Rank: N/A
- Position Rank: N/A
- Offers: 12-Louisville, NC State, Wake Forest, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Ole Miss, Houston, Western Kentucky, Charlotte, and East Carolina.
Brandon White is a big with great upside. Around the rim, both offensively and defensively, he’s absolutely relentless. He plays above the rim, finishing almost exclusively with dunks offensively and swatting shots left and right defensively. However, he shows some skill with a decent jumper and some post moves. White’s long arms make him a formidable presence on the court. A skilled big that can shoot is something Chris Mack has had at Xavier and has had with Malik Williams. Now, he seeks to continue his tradition.
As you can see by the offers, the program is looking to fill out the backcourt and wing spots with talented, tough, athletic shooters and slashers. They also have identified their first big. If UofL were to land of this group from the first crop of offers, they will have done extremely well. In the coming weeks, CSZ will be watching and waiting for the first commitment. Go Cards.
