TWICA: 8-23-21

Well Cards fans, sports are finally starting back up after the summer break, and you know what that means, the return of “This Week in Cardinal Athletics!” Without any further adieu, let’s get into it!

#13 Volleyball

The Volleyball team will begin the season this week, but had an Exhibition game against last year’s A-10 champs in Dayton this past Saturday. They were able to come out on top in 5 sets (22-25, 25-15, 25-19, 20-25, 15-10). They hit .225 as a team, and were led by 14 kills and 3 aces from sophomore Anna DeBeer.

This Week: The Cards will travel to Tempe, Arizona, for 3 different games. They are as follows:

Friday August 27 Vs Cal Poly at Noon

Friday August 27 Vs Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 7 PM

Saturday August 28th Vs (Tournament Host) Arizona State at 6 PM

Field Hockey

The Louisville Field Hockey squad, typically one of the more solid programs in the country, will begin their 2021 campaign this week. However, they did get a scrimmage in on Sunday, as they faced off against Bellarmine, with the Cards pulling away with the exhibition W 10-2. The Cards were led by 2 goals a piece from Mattie Tabor, Charlie van Oirschot, and Mackenzie Karl.

This Week: Friday, August 27 Vs Ohio at 3 PM

Sunday, August 29 Vs New Hampshire at 2 PM

Men’s Soccer

The Louisville Men’s Soccer team had an exhibition game at the number 2 ranked team’s home pitch, as they traveled to Indiana. Unfortunately, they came up just short as they lost by a score of 5-4. Luckily, this game does NOT count on our official record, and it will surely help the team’s morale that we kept it decently close with the 2nd ranked team in the country!

This Week: Thursday August 26 At Saint Louis at 8 PM

Women’s Soccer (1-0-0)

Our women’s soccer squad had their first match of the 2021 season, as they hosted Western Michigan. The first look at the team during regular season play has to have people excited, as they were able to dominate in most phases of the game, winning handedly 6-2. Goals were scored by freshman Nina Nicosia (2), freshman Julia Simon (2), freshman Brooke Dardano, and Sophomore Emma Hiscock. The future certainly looks bright for our Cards!

This Week: Thursday August 26 Vs James Madison at 7:30 PM

Sunday August 29 Vs Northern Kentucky at 7:30 PM

Well, sports are back folks! I for one can’t wait to cheer on all of our teams all season long! I’ll be back next week for another edition of TWICA. As always, Go Cards!!
