Cardinals Of The Week: Week of August 29th

Hey everyone, Higgy is back! Join me as we spotlight three University of Louisville student-athletes each week. These student-athletes can be from any of our athletic programs we have at the university. Here are my student athletes from the week of August 29th.

Erica is a senior from Louisville and attended Assumption High School. The #5 Cardinals field hockey team started the season on Friday vs the Ohio Bobcats and won! She scored two goals during the game to help the Cardinals clench the win over the Bobcats. Erica has helped the Cards to shutout victories in their first two games of the season. This hometown Cardinal is someone to keep an eye one if you get a chance to come and watch the #5 field hockey team as they look to gain their first ACC title.

Nina Nicosia – Freshman – Women’s Soccer

Nina and her teammates opened the women’s soccer season this week by defeating Western Michigan and James Madison. Nina scored 2 goals in the James Madison game to take the early season team lead in goals along with becoming the elite defender this season. She seems to be leading the charge to replace Emina Ekic along with Emma Hiscock and Julia Simon. Nina and the Lady Cards play two games this week against Northern Kentucky and St. Louis.

Anna DeBeer – Sophomore – Volleyball

She helped the Cardinals in their victories with nine kills in each game. Anna also currently leads the team in total attempts and collected the MVP honors at the Sun Devil Invitational. The volleyball team has a very busy week before they will face off with Missouri in the annual Cardinal Classic on Friday.

Till next week Card nation! Go Cards!!
