The Cards landed a commitment this afternoon from south Georgia 3 Star athlete Maurice Turner! Turner is listed as a wide receiver by 247sports, but I believe he will play running back for the Cardinals. Turner fielded offers from schools like Tennessee, Cincinnati, WKU, Coastal Carolina, and ECU.

Standing at about 5’9 175 ILBs, Turner is an ultra-athletic football player. He had a super impressive shuttle time at ECU’s camp with a 4.2 second shuttle and also had one of the better broad jumps at the camp with a 135-inch broad jump! Last season, Turner amassed over 1,700 all purpose yards with 689 coming on the ground and 712 coming from the air, while also collecting 18 total touchdowns.
I believe Turner adds an element to the RB room that is lacking which is a Nyheim Hines or Darren Sproles-type of running back. He would be a running back who can slide into the slot and still be just as dangerous or can take any given screen pass to the house. While not the biggest running back by any means, Turner has the athleticism and skillset to make up for it.
With a back like Turner it is a lot harder for the defense to be able to tell what they’re going to get from the offense. His skillset is also a great change of pace from guys like Jalen Mitchell or Trevion Cooley who are more of in between the tackles runners than wide zone scheme runners. Turner has track star speed and he shows it off consistently once he has the football in his hands. With his size, I’m sure aspects of the game like pass protection will be at least somewhat of a challenge, but I think Turner is the type of versatile and athletic running back Satterfield and Sims were looking for this offseason.
Here are some highlights from Turner’s game this past weekend! Just wanted to point out that the first play he made was against a composite top 60 DB who’s heading to Texas A&M:
