With the fall sports season in full swing, and with the first football game of the year for UofL one week from today, welcome back to another edition of This Week in Cardinal Athletics! Enough chit chat though, let’s jump right into it!

#13 Volleyball (3-0)

Our Cardinals traveled to Tempe, Arizona for a 3 game tournament hosted by Arizona State this past week.

The first game was against Cal Poly, and the Cardinals prevailed in a 3-0 sweep in the Cardinals first official game of the 2021 campaign (25-23, 25-21, 26-24). They were bolstered by 9 kills a piece from Anna Stevenson and Anna DeBeer, as well as 8 kills from Aiko Jones.

The second game of the tourney was against Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and again the Cards won in a 3-0 sweep (25-10, 25-17, 25-16). An overall dominating performance by the squad here, as they were again led in kills by DeBeer (9), with Jones again contributing 8 kills and Amaya Tillman adding 7.

The 3rd and final game of the tourney, against host Arizona State was a much closer affair, with the game going to the full 5 sets, but the Cards ultimately pulling out the 3-2 victory (25-15, 24-26, 25-17, 24-26, 15-11). The Cards were paced once again by DeBeer with 18 kills, with Stevenson having 12 kills and Jones contributing 11. A special shoutout to the 3 Cards who made the All-Tournament team, Anna Stevenson, Amaya Tillman, and Anna DeBeer (who also won the MVP of the entire tourney).
