On Tuesday, it was announced that Louisville Field Hockey sophomore Sofia Pendolino had been selected to represent the United States U-21 national team in the upcoming training camp later this month. Pendolino started 11 of the 19 matches for the Cardinals last season.
From the university’s press release:
“The University of Louisville’s Sofia Pendolino was named to the 2022 United States Under-21 Women’s National Team following a four-day selection camp last week.
Pendolino (Hummelstown, Pa.) recently completed her sophomore season at UofL. The back/midfielder played in 19 games with 11 starts and helped the Cardinal defense produce seven shutouts and helped hold opponents to just 18 goals in 20 games. Pendolino was previously selected for the USA Field Hockey Rise Women’s National Team, USWNT U-19 England Tour and was a member of the U-17 national team.
Louisville senior Katie Schneider (San Diego, Calif.) and alumna Carter Ayars (Wilmington, Del.) were among a number of athletes who were unable to attend last week’s tryout and received invitations to a later trial for U.S. U-21 National Team and Women’s National Development Team respectively.
Both teams are scheduled for a training camp from February 23 to 27 in Chula Vista, Calif. For more information regarding the U.S. U-21 Women’s National Team and U.S. Women’s National Development Team, continue to follow usafieldhockey.com.
