Louisville (11-4) capped off a strong week in non-conference play, taking two of three against the Michigan Wolverines (8-7) on final scores of 5-3, 7-16, and 13-1.
Friday’s win was highlighted by a strong performance on the mound from Tate Kuehner, who improved his record to 3-0 with two earned runs allowed in six innings of work. Michael Prosecky earned his fourth save of the 2022 season with a shutout ninth inning. Levi Usher (3-for-4, RBI) and Logan Beard (2-for-4, RBI) combined for five of Louisville’s eight hits, with Dalton Rushing adding a big solo home run in the seventh inning to give Louisville their decisive margin.
In game two, Michigan’s win was spearheaded by a ten run explosion in the third inning, amidst very snowy conditions at Jim Patterson Stadium. Louisville struggled with 12 walks and 11 hits, to go with three errors.
Game three saw Louisville rebound with an emphatic offensive showing. The Cardinals tallied 15 hits, eight going for extra bases and five coming on home runs. Ben Metzinger led the charge with two home runs in a 2-for-5 outing with four RBIs, with Isaac Humphrey (1-for-3, two RBIs), Levi Usher (3-for-5, four RBIs, triple), and Cameron Masterman (2-for-3, RBI) also tallying homers on the afternoon. Riley Phillips continued his hot streak as a weekend starter, allowing just one earned run in six innings and twirling nine strikeouts.
Jeff Nunn provided photos for game one, while I have photos from a snowy first half of game two, as well as the second half of it on Sunday and game three.
