Top RB Rueben Owens II Will Officially Visit Louisville On June 17th

It is likely Louisville football’s 2023 class will be the best in school history. The coaching staff is definitely working to stack it to the hilt. June 17th is a huge weekend for the program as they will have multiple, uncommitted 4 Star players in for visits. They will also have a consensus 5 Star player and the number 1 all-purpose back in the 2023 class on campus. Rueben Owens II has canceled an official visit he had set with Georgia and will instead visit home state TCU and UofL in June. The Georgia visit was scheduled for June 17th per 247sports, but Rivals analyst Nick Harris reports that visit is now canceled.

Owens as stated above is listed as a consensus 5 Star prospect by 247sports and the number 1 all-purpose back by Rivals. It’s suffice to say Owens has offers from just about every major program in college football. The fact UofL is getting an official visit over Georgia speaks volumes. 247sports composite rankings has Owens listed as the number 17 overall prospect in the 2023 class. He’s ranked number 1 at his position.

The 5’11 290 lbs RB is a native of El Campo, TX where he plays for El Campo High School. He had a spectacular 2021 campaign. He rushed for a ridiculous 2989 yards and 46(!) TDs for his high school team. He averaged 12 yards a carry. He also was used as a weapon in his team’s passing game, with 15 receptions for 252 yards and 2 TDs.

Owens is a shifty, extremely fast RB. He can run with some power. He’s extremely patient setting up blocks and when a hole opens, his acceleration through it is elite. When the hole is tight, he can use cuts and jukes to make tacklers miss and then hit the afterburners. Once Owens gets in the open, he’s likely taking the rock to the end zone for 6.

I know recruiting analysts use the word “elite” a lot, but Rueben Owens II is truly elite. He is a legit 5 Star, top 50 prospect. UofL getting a player like him to even entertain visiting let alone lock in a visit by cancelling a visit to the defending national champs is amazing. With Pierce Clarkson spearheading this recruitment, I feel like Louisville has a legit shot at Owens. It’ll be ridiculously hard to wrestle him away from his home state of Texas when all the top schools there want him. If UofL can impress during his visit, however, there’s no reason they can’t turn the tide.
