Louisville Vs UCF Post Game Recap

Louisville faced the University of Central Florida in Orlando for the second consecutive road game to start the year. The Cards had a disappointing start to the season after dropping to Syracuse 31-7. If you remember, the Cards beat UFC 42-35 thanks to a walk off interception returned for a touchdown by Jaylin Alderman.

1st Quarter:

Louisville received the ball first, which they’ve only done a hand full of times under Coach Satterfield. Louisville was able to march right down the field with a 75-yard, 10-play drive, capped with a Tiyon Evans 7-yard TD run. The defense, however, allowed UCF to answer with a quick touchdown of their own.

2nd Quarter:

A James Turner missed field goal is how the second quarter started for the Cards. UCF moved the ball at will again on the Louisville defense and took a 14-7 lead. UofL was able to have some success on offense, but an Evans fumble after a huge run put a halt on any chance of Louisville tying the game before the half. The Cards defense definitely settled in after giving up the two early touchdowns and didn’t allow another point for UCF. The Cards trailed UCF 7-14 going into intermission.

3rd Quarter:

The Louisville defense came out in the quarter and held UCF scoreless. The defense got pressure on the quarterback, made plays in the backfield, and only allowed 39 yards in the quarter. The Cards added a 35-yard field goal by Turner and a 43-yard touchdown scamper by Cunningham in the quarter, to take 17-14 lead into the fourth quarter.

4th Quarter:

Louisville extended their lead with another field goal by James Turner. The Cards were on the wrong end of a few crucial calls in the fourth quarter, most notably the overturned targeting called on UCF. UofL went for it on 4th and 5, but the pass was behind Ford and was incomplete. Jarvis Brownlee came up with a huge interception for the Cards defense in the back of the endzone. Louisville got the ball on the 20 yard line with 2:52 left, but had to punt the ball back to the Knights. The defense came up huge once again and forced a turnover on downs. The Cards get their first victory of the season.
