Gameday Recap: Cards Fly To Massachusetts, But Were Grounded By The Eagles

Pregame Notes: Louisville goes into Boston College looking to start their first winning streak of the year. The Cards are coming off an impressive 41-3 victory over a struggling USF. UofL really needs to take advantage of a struggling Boston College team, while starting their own winning streak at crucial point in the season.

1st Quarter:

Louisville opened the game on a twelve-play 70-yard drive, capped by a 1-yard Cunningham run. The Cards led early, 7-0. A red zone Monty Montgomery interception ended Boston College’s 1st drive after just 3 plays. Louisville quickly went 3-and-out, BC comes down and ties the game up 7-7. Monty Montgomery again puts an end to another BC drive with a sack fumble of Phil Jurkovec.

2nd Quarter:

Louisville was only able to get 3 points off of the turnover. They jumped back in front 10-7. Boston College’s lethal connection of Jurkovec to Flowers scored on a long TD pass to put the Eagles ahead 14-10. Louisville went for it on 4th-and-2 at midfield, but Malik was stopped short of the line to gain. Montgomery again was able to force a Boston College turnover, this time the Cards were able to score a touchdown, but the extra point was blocked. UofL led 16-14. The two teams traded touchdowns to end the half and Louisville took a 23-21 lead going into the half.

3rd Quarter:

Louisville stops BC on their 1st drive of the half, came down and was able connect on a 49-yard FG. Louisville was able to extend their lead to 26-21. Once again Jurkovec was able to connect with Flowers for another long TD pass to give BC a 28-26 lead. The Cards answered immediately with a Malik to Huggins-Bruce TD pass that gave them a 33-28 lead going into the final quarter.

4th Quarter:

The Cards offense struggled in the quarter with three of their four drives ending with a turnover on downs. Louisville managed to only gain 97 yards of offense, and was scoreless in the quarter. Malik exited the game with an undisclosed injury early in the quarter and didn’t return. UofL’s defense held BC out of the endzone, but allowed 2 field goals that proved to be too much for the Cards stagnant offense to overcome. Louisville fell to the Eagles 33-34 and falls to 0-3 in ACC play.
