Louisville is 1-0 and has a winning record for the first time under Kenny Payne’s tenure. Give them credit, the effort level on Monday was better than we saw at any point last season. The Cards a lot of games last year, and this is one that they probably would have lost last season. The talent level seems miles ahead of the squad from last year. Maybe once they’ve gotten past the mental hurdle of winning a close game, things could open up from here.
Defensively, there is a ton of questions marks out there as one of the worse teams in all of college basketball scored 93 points inside the Yum! Center. Offensively, the Cards looked engaged throughout, getting to the line with ease and looking much more organized on that end than a year ago. That is not good enough, though. It’s important to measure this team against the one who won four games a season ago, but the bar is much higher this year. They need to win many more games, and in doing so win back this fan base. Louisville is 1-0; where will it go from here?
