The first twenty minutes from Louisville on Wednesday night mimicked the kind of performance we have seen too many times since the start of last season. The lack of effort, body language and overall product sent the Cards into the locker room with a mountain of pressure on their backs to turn it around in the second half.
Louisville quickly erased a five point deficit and held a 12-point lead with 10:41 remaining in the game. An inability to execute on the offensive end ultimately kept Bellarmine in the game until the final seconds.
The second half performance from the Cards looked like what we saw in New York last week. They have proven now what is possible, and now there is really no excuse to not bring that same intensity and aggression on a nightly basis from here on out. It makes that first half result even more inexcusable. Patience must be earned, and it all starts with winning the games on your schedule that you should.
Despite any positives that might be taken from the second half, Louisville still squeaked by an inferior Bellarmine team on its home court. They still have a ton to prove over the next weeks and beyond.
