Coach Brohm and his staff has done it again. This time, they didn’t have to travel far for someone who grew up in their backyard. Louisville adds their 3rd tight end, yeah that’s right THIRD tight end through the transfer portal. Izayah Cummings, the 6’3 232 lbs versatile tight end committed to play his last year for the Louisville Cardinals.

During his time at the blue school up the road, Cummings was criminally underused in the offense. Cummings played in 47 games at his previous school and totaled 293 yards and 3 touchdowns on 18 receptions. Cummings also rushed 4 times for 28 yards. Izayah’s best year was his sophomore year where he played in all 13 games and made 2 starts. During the year, he accumulated 14 receptions for 195 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Izayah is listed as a tight end, but can also be used as an H-Back (similar to Marshon Ford) or he could be used split out wide as a receiver (similar to Gary Barnidge). Cummings has exceptionally great speed for a tight end and has the ability to turn a 10 yard pass into a 50 yard gain.
Izayah is the type of player that can thrive in coach Brohm’s offense. With Izayah being good at both blocking and receiving, he can be an every down guy in coach Brohm’s offense. Cummings gets off the line of scrimmage quickly and smoothly in passing situations. He also has a high enough IQ and feel to sense when his QB is in trouble to break off his route to give his quarterback a safety outlet. Cummings is also really good at selling the blocks on play-action passes before he releases into his route.
Coach Brohm can feel comfortable putting Izayah in on any down. Cummings is also a really good run blocker and is very physical at the point of attack. Cummings has what they like to call “quick and violent hands’ and has no problem sealing the edge or creating holes in the run game as a lead blocker.
With the addition of Cummings, coach Brohm didn’t just add quality depth, but also added versatility and a legit red zone threat for whoever the starting quarterback is next year. Coach Brohm will most definitely use Cummings 36” vertical to win a few jump passes next year.
Coming out of high school, Cummings was rated as a 3* star prospect and a top 10 player in the state of Kentucky. Cummings played his high school ball at Louisville Male High school. Izayah’s final list out of high school included: Louisville, Cincinnati, Indiana and Purdue just to name a few.
