The Louisville Men’s Basketball team’s late comeback effort fell short as the Cards lost 89-83 to NC State on Saturday afternoon at home. Louisville is now 6-10 on the season and 1-4 in the ACC. The Wolfpack improved to 12-5 and 4-1. Louisville was attempting to win consecutive conference games for the first time since Jan. 2022.

Louisville 83— Louisville Men's Basketball (@LouisvilleMBB) January 13, 2024
After trailing by nine points at halftime, Louisville was able to take a one point lead with 11:55 on the clock. NC State pulled away from there and led 83-69 with just over two minutes left. The Cards managed to put together a late 11-0 run but ran out of time, ultimately losing by six.
Louisville followed up its best performance of the season with a decent effort against a middling NC State team. It appears that they are starting to figure some things out on the offensive end. The Cards have scored 80 points in consecutive games, and this one in particular included a couple runs that were among the most positive stretches of the Kenny Payne era.
The KFC Yum! Center was rocking on Saturday compared to some of the atmospheres this program has experienced in recent years. If Louisville starts winning games, the fans will come back. Even avoiding embarrassing losses could go a long way. The Cards lost but put up a fiery effort for 40 minutes. There are no moral victories at a place like Louisville. That said, the effort that has been shown this past week should raise expectations. It makes some of the performances we’ve seen this year look even more inexcusable.
