TWICA Week Of August 25th – September 1

Welcome back to this week in Cardinal Athletics. Here is your recap of Cardinal Athletics for August 25th – September 1st.

#6 Volleyball (2-0):

The Cardinals started their 2024 season with a battle of Top 15 teams to start the season. On Tuesday, the Cardinals fell in the first set 25-18 to #3 Wisconsin. Then the Cardinals came back and beat the Badgers from behind with 11 kills from Charitie Luper and 10 kills from Anna DeBeer. The Cardinals looked on to carry their momentum into the Sunday matchup against #15 Tennessee. Charitie Luper continued her dominance against the Volunteers with 10 Kills. The Cardinals swept the #15 Volunteers (25-14, 25-22, 25-20).

Up Next: The Cardinals travel to Pennsylvania to play #7 Penn State on Tuesday at 7pm. Then, they travel to Northern Kentucky for the weekend tournament starting on Friday.

#7 Field Hockey (1-1):

The Cardinals started the 2024 Season with a hard challenge against #4 Maryland. Redshirt Sophomore, Sophia Parker, scored her first career goal. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to beat #4 Maryland. #4 Maryland found a way to win in double overtime 2-1. The Cardinals then traveled to Washington D.C. on Sunday to face American University which they won 3-1. Sophia Parker scored her second goal in 2 games. Sophmore Emily Young, picked up her first win as goal keeper for the Cardinals.

Up Next: Friday vs Princeton for Home Opener and then Sunday against Pennsylvania.

 

#15 Men’s Soccer (2-0):

The #15 Cardinals traveled to Tulsa where they won 2-1 in the first road match of the season. The Cardinals top scorer was Gage Guerra, who scored his second goal of the season.

Up Next: The Cardinals host their crosstown rival, , on Monday before starting the ACC Conference play on Friday where they host Notre Dame.

 

Women’s Soccer (4-0-2):

The women soccer team had the busiest week for all the Cardinal teams. They had three matches this week against Northern Kentucky, Cincinnati, and Evansville. The Cardinals went 2-0-1 this week. This was the first time the Cardinals have been unbeaten since the 2019 Campaign. Junior Mackenzie Geigle, scored 2 of the 3 goals in the win on Sunday against Evansville.

Up Next: The Cardinals host UT Martin on Thursday before hosting Dayton on Sunday.
