TWICA Week of September 2nd – September 9th

Welcome back for another week of “This Week In Cardinal Athletics” for the week of September 2nd – September 8th.

#4 Volleyball (5-1):

Volleyball had some ups and downs this week. They traveled to #7 Penn State for another top ten matchup early in the season. Unfortunately, they didn’t have their best performance. The Cardinals fell in three sets to the Nittany Lions. Then, they traveled to North Kentucky University for the NKU Invitational. The Cardinals were able to sweep through the competition, defeating South Dakota, Missouri, and Northern Kentucky.

Up Next: The Cardinals return home this weekend to host the Cardinal Invitational with matchups at Yum Center.

 

#15 Men’s Soccer (3-1):

The Cardinals soccer team had an interesting week. The Cardinals started with a 3-1 victory over Bellarmine on Monday before falling to Notre Dame on Friday. The Cardinals outshot the Fighting Irish 15-10 but still fell 2-1 on Friday evening. Senior Gage Guerra, was held scoreless for the first time.

Up Next: The team ravels to Lexington on Monday evening for the Battle of Bluegrass before traveling to Pittsburgh on Friday.

 

Women’s Soccer (5-1-2):

The Cardinals women’s soccer team unfortunately continued the trend this week with the Cardinals getting their first loss. The Cardinals started the week with a 2-0 victory over UT Martin and then fell to Dayton on Sunday with a 1-0 score. The Cardinals had multiple opportunities to tie on Sunday, but just couldn’t connect.

Up Next: Cardinals will have an ACC play when they hit the road next weekend. Louisville travels north to Pittsburgh to take on the Panthers on September 14th.

 

#7 Field Hockey (2-2):

The field hockey team hosted #15 Princeton in the home opener, but fell 1-0. The Cardinals couldn’t connect on their eight shots. The Cardinals then turned around and hosted Pennsylvania on Sunday. They bounced back with a win over Pennsylvania 3-1. The Cardinals fell behind first then bounced back with three unanswered goals to take the victory.

Up Next: The Cardinals host #1 Northwestern on Friday at 6pm.
