
Welcome back for another week of “This Week In Cardinal Athletics” for the week of October 7th – October 13th.
#4 Volleyball (14-2)
Volleyball had a challenging week with facing some of the top teams in the country. On Friday, the Cardinals started a conference road trip with a trip down south to #19 Florida State. The Cardinals fell in first set, but bounced back to take the next two sets. Senior, Anna DeBeer, achieved a season high with 23 kills. She also added to her stats with 11 digs. Her performance helped the Cardinals take down the Seminoles in the decisive fifth set. This win snapped FSU’s 17 match home winning streak. On Sunday, Anna continued on her hot streak. She had another 18 kills and a block. Her contributions led the Cardinals to a 3-1 victory over Miami. The win put the Cardinals at 6-0. They moved to the top of the ACC Standings after SMU defeated #1 Pittsburgh on Saturday.
Up Next: The Cardinals return home to the L&N Federal Credit Union Arena next weekend to host Wake Forest at 7 p.m. on Friday and NC State on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Cardinals had a roller coaster of a week. They defeated Lipscomb 4-2. Then they fell to #12 Clemson 3-2 in a very hard-fought match. The win over Lipscomb was the Cardinals highest scoring output since 2023. Also, four different Cardinals scored in this victory. The Cardinals then hosted Clemson. They jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Then they fell apart which allowed the Tigers to score the last three goals in the match.
Up Next: The team hosts Evansville on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Women’s Soccer (6-5-2):
The Cardinals women’s soccer team had one match this week. They hosted #13 Notre Dame. This was the fifth clean sheet this season for the Cardinals. It was the first time that Notre Dame was shutout this season. Goalkeeper, Erynn Floyd, recorded ten saves.
Up Next: Cardinals will host Stanford on Thursday night at 7 p.m. and then California on Sunday at Noon.
Field Hockey (5-9):
The field hockey team hosted #1 North Carolina on Friday in an ACC match. The Cardinals fell 2-1 with the only goal coming from Sophomore, Chloe Plumb which was her fourth of the season. The Cardinals then traveled to Winston Salem, North Carolina. They fell 3-2 in double overtime to Wake Forest. The Cardinals were outshout 10-6, but they hold the advantage in corners and shots on goal. Both of the Cardinals’ goals were scored by Aimee Plumb.
Up Next: The Cardinals will host Duke on Friday at 3 p.m.
