TWICA: October 14th – October 20th

Welcome back for another edition of “This Week In Cardinal Athletics” for the week of October 14th – October 20th.

#4 Volleyball (16-2)

Volleyball had an amazing week with taking care of business in sweeping Wake Forrest and NC State. Senior Outside Hitter Charitie Luper picked up her 1000th career kill & Anna DeBeer also contributed with 11 kills in the win on Friday night over Wake Forest. Anna continued her domainance with collecting her 5th Double Double of the Season with 10 Kills & 11 Digs in the victory over NC State yesterday. The Cardinals defense held the Wolfpack to their lowest hitting percentage all season at .087.

Up Next: The Cardinals have very tough week this week with traveling to #1 Pittsburgh on Friday Night before heading to Dallas to face #12 SMU.

Men’s Soccer (5-4-5):

The Cardinals had only 1 match this week and they drew against Evansville on Wednesday evening. Evansville jumped to an early 2-0 lead before the Cardinals answered back with goals from Gage Guerra and Elijah Brijbasi. The Cardinals held the advantage in second half’s with 11-5.

Up Next: The team hosts Milwaukee on Tuesday at 7 p.m. They travel to Raleigh for a matchup Sunday with NC State at 6pm.

Women’s Soccer (7-6-3):

The Cardinals women’s soccer team had roller coaster week. The Cardinals hosted #6 Stanford on Thursday evening. They fell in the final moments of the match. It looked like the Cardinals were going to get another draw. Then, Stanford in the final moments of the match scored the game winner giving them the victory 1-0. The Cardinals then had to turn around and host #25 California on Sunday after this emotional defeat. Mackenzie Geigle scored the first goal for the Cardinals in the fourteenth minute. She then scored the game-leading goal in the 42nd minute. Cards goalie Erynn Floyd managed to notch her 4 straight game with 5 or more saves in the victory.

Up Next: Cardinals will host Boston College on Thursday night at 7 p.m.

Field Hockey (5-10): 

The field hockey team unfortunately had their slump continue on Friday evening with a loss of 3-0 to #11 Duke. Duke just had the Cardinals number the whole match and the Cardinals just didn’t have an answer for them.

Up Next: The Cardinals will travel to Berkeley, California to face California on Friday at 7 p.m before finishing the regular season with a match on Sunday with UC Davis at 2pm.

Mens Basketball

Last but not least Mens Basketball will host an exhibition tonight as they battle Young-Harris at 7 pm. Go support the Cards in their first exhibition of the Pat Kelsey era! You can stream it on ACC Network Xtra.
