
Welcome back for another edition of “This Week In Cardinal Athletics” for the week of October 21st – October 27th.
#4 Volleyball (17-3)
Volleyball had another roller coaster week in the ACC. The Cardinals first traveled to #1 Pittsburgh. The Cardinals had fallen in 1st set (25-21) before taking the 2nd set (28-26) before falling in the 3rd (25-17) and then taking the 4th (25-22). The decisive 5th set the Cardinals battled with the Panthers before falling 15-12. Seniors Charitie Luper and Anna DeBeer had 41 Kills & 31 Digs. This was the Cardinals first loss in ACC Play.
The Cardinals then traveled to Dallas to face #12 SMU. The Cardinals picked up a 3-1 victory behind Senior Anna DeBeer’s 7th Double Double. She finished with 16 Kills and 15 Digs. The Cardinals had 15 blocks as a team. Cara Cresse chipped in with career high 11 blocks.
Up Next: The Cardinals have 2 matches against Notre Dame this week. The first match is on Wednesday at home. They will then travel to Notre Dame on Saturday.

The Cardinals scored a season high in goals on Tuesday evening scoring 4 goals in the victory over Milwaukee. Gage Guerra, Bilbao Camara, Parker Forbes, & Mason Tatafu all scored for the Cardinals in the victory. This was the first clean sheet for the Cardinals since beating Kentucky on September 9th. Then, on Sunday evening the Cardinals fell to #19 NC State 1-0.
Up Next: The team hosts SMU in the final match of the season on Friday at 7pm
Women’s Soccer (7-6-4):
The Cardinals women’s soccer team had only one match this week and it was draw against Boston College
Up Next: Cardinals will travel to Clemson on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
Field Hockey (6-11):
The field hockey team fell to California on Friday 2-1. California jumped out early and the Cardinals just couldn’t keep up with the Golden Bears. Rylie Wollerton was the only Cardinal that got on the board with a goal.
On Sunday the Cardinals finished their California trip with a defeat of UC-Davis 6-2. Lauren Masters lead the Cardinals with 2 goals. This victory ended the Cardinals 8 game losing streak. This was the most goals from the Cardinals since 2021.
Up Next: The Cardinals will now await their fate for ACC Tournament on November 5th.
Mens Basketball
Last but not least, Men’s Basketball had their first exhibition this week. Take a look at Ben’s recap of the first game in the Pat Kelsey Era.
The Cards host Spalding tomorrow night at the YUM.
Football (5-3):
Friday Evening Coach Jeff Brohm came back from 20-0 deficit to defeat Boston College 31-27. This was the Cardinals first win in program history after trailing by 10+ points in 4th quarter. Tyler Shough finished with 2 Touchdown passes & Issac Brown added 2 rushing touchdown. Check out what Coach Brohm had to say after the comeback.
