Welcome back for another edition of This Week In Cardinal Athletics for the week of November 18th – November 24th.
#3 Volleyball (25-3, 17-1):
The Cardinals had a Virginia road trip this past week with facing the University of Virginia on Friday Night and Virginia Tech on Sunday. The Cardinals were able to get a 3-1 victory on Friday evening against Virginia behind Senior Charitie Luper’s 14 Kills. The Cardinals held the Cavs to .079 hitting percentage for the entire match. On Sunday, the Cardinals achieved their 17th Sweep of the Season in the victory over Virginia Tech. This was thanks to 6 kills each from Charitie Luper, Phekran Kong, and Reese Robins.
Up Next: The Cardinals host #1 Pittsburgh on Wednesday Night at 7pm at the KFC Yum Center. Card Fans please get out and support these women with wearing red. The Cardinals then finished the regular season on the road Saturday at Stanford.
#25/#22 Women’s Basketball (4-2):
The Cardinals had a very busy week with matchups against Morehead State on Thursday and South Florida on Sunday. The Cardinals bear Morehead State 107-70 behind 21pts from Freshman Imari Berry. Her 5 3-Pointers were the most by a freshman since 2020. The Cardinals then traveled to Orlando to face South Florida. The Cardinals won 64-60 behind a 21-8 2nd Quarter. Olivia Cochran & Imari Berry both had 13pts each. Nyla Harris also chipped in with 8pts and 9 rebounds.
Up Next: The Cardinals travel to Boulder, Colorado to take on University of Colorado on Saturday at 3pm.
Men’s Basketball (3-1):
The Cardinals had a busy week before their travel to the Bahamas. The Cardinals faced crosstown rival Bellarmine & Winthrop. Terrence Edwards Jr & Karen Pryor led the Cardinals with 47 of the teams 100pts.
On Friday the Cardinals hosted Winthrop in a hard-fought first half. The Cards only led 35-27 at halftime. They pulled away in the second half. Senior Reyne Smith led the Cardinals with 20pts & J’Vonne Hadley notched a double double with 12pts & 13 rebounds. Check out the rest of recap of the Winthrop from Ben.
Up Next: The Cardinals travel to the Bahamas to compete in Battle 4 Atlantis. The Cardinals open with #16/#18 Indiana on Wednesday at Noon on ESPN.
#9/#7 Swimming & Diving:
The Cardinals traveled to Columbus, Ohio to compete in Ohio State Invite. The Men’s team finished 2nd behind Indiana. The Women’s team was 3rd behind Indiana & host Ohio State. Louisville’s Julia Dennis won the 100 freestyle & Gabi Albiero finished 4th. The Men’s 400 Freestyle Relay finished 2nd.

Football (7-4):
The Cardinals hosted Pittsburgh for Senior Day. Behind Isaac Browns two touchdowns & 2 Sacks from Ashton Gillotte the Cardinals prevailed 37-9. Tyler Shough eclipsed 3,000 yards passing for the season & Jacorey Brooks added with the 5th 1,000 yard receiver in school history.
Up Next: The Cardinals travel to Lexington to face the Blue School at Noon on Saturday.
Notes:
The Cardinals Cross Country sophomore, Gustav Bendsen, was named to the Denmark National Team for 2024. He will compete in the Under 23 European Cross Country Championships on December 8th in Antalya, Turkey.
