Louisville men’s basketball kicked off portal season with a bang! 5 Star combo guard Adrian Wooley pledged to Coach Pat Kelsey and the Cards. The 6’5 180 lbs Conference USA Player of the Year and Freshman All-American brings an immediate-impact to next year’s roster.
At Kennesaw State, Wooley started 32 of 33 games as a true freshman. He averaged 18.8 points per game, 5.2 rebounds per game, 3.6 assists per game, and 1.4 steals per game. Wooley shot 51.2-percent from the field and 42.2-percent from the arc.
From Wooley’s Kennesaw State highlights, it’s easy to understand why Coach Pat Kelsey sought to acquire him. Wooley has a nice shooting stroke from beyond the arc, capable of hitting spot-up shots or creating open threes off of step-backs and rhythm dribbles. His shot isn’t affected by tight defense. In Kelsey’s more modern style of offense that seeks to either hit threes or layups, Wooley compliments his 3-point shooting by having excellent ability to penetrate the lane and get to the rim. When he gets there, he is capable of creative finishes. Also, contact doesn’t bother him as he easily finishes through it. Defensively, he has the size and lateral quickness to be able to guard multiple positions.
This is as perfect a pickup as any Louisville fan could hope for to start off the Portaling season. Adrian Wooley figures to slot in as a starter, probably at the 2-guard spot. He’s going to bring scoring ability and toughness. He fills an immediate need and there’s the possibility he stays multiple seasons. Coach Pat Kelsey already has started off Year 2 with a big win already by securing the abilities of Adrian Wooley.
