Louisville Takes Game One In 8-1 Win Over Miami (FL)

Jake Munroe hit two home runs, Garret Pike added another, and Louisville (39-21) rolled to an 8-1 win over Miami (FL) (34-26) in game one of the Louisville Super Regional.

Louisville jumped on Miami (FL) early and never looked back. The Cardinals got things started in the second inning with back-to-back home runs from Garret Pike and Jake Munroe, taking an early 2-0 lead.

Miami (FL) got a run back in the top of the third inning with an RBI sac fly from Renzo Gonzalez, but Louisville responded with a five run burst in the bottom portion of the inning. A throwing error led to two runs coming in, and Munroe hit his second homer with a three-run blast to put Louisville ahead 7-1.

Munroe added another RBI with a sac fly in the fourth inning, part of his 2-for-3 afternoon with two home runs, five RBIs, and two runs scored. Eddie King, Jr. (2-for-3) and Matt Klein (2-for-4) were the other Louisville batters with multi-hit games. Klein has continued his hot streak in the NCAA Tournament, batting 6-for-16 (.375) with four RBIs, two doubles, two home runs, and two RBIs in four NCAA Tournament games. Garret Pike (1-for-4, HR, RBI), Zion Rose (1-for-4), Tague Davis (1-for-3), and Kamau Neighbors (1-for-4) also had hits for Louisville.

Patrick Forbes earned his fourth win of the season, pitching 5.2 innings and tallying nine strikeouts with just one earned run allowed. Brennyn Cutts (1.1 IP, H, 2 Ks, BB) and Justin West (2.0 IP, H, K) finished the game with 3.1 shutout innings from the bullpen.

Miami was led by Max Galvin’s 3-for-5 day, with Renzo Gonzalez (0-2, RBI, BB) providing Miami’s only RBI. Tanner Smith (1-for-3, BB) and Michael Torres (1-for-3, BB) also had base hits for the Hurricanes.

Louisville will look to punch its ticket to the College World Series in game two on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. ET. and airing on ESPN and 93.9 The Ville.
