Louisville (39-22)’s ninth inning rally came up short, as the Cardinals dropped a 9-6 loss to Miami (35-26) in game two of the Louisville Super Regional.
The Hurricanes got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning, with Michael Torres lacing an RBI single into left field to put Miami ahead 1-0.
Louisville answered with a three-run third inning and another run in the fourth. Zion Rose landed an RBI single to center field to tie the game, with Eddie King, Jr. hitting a two-run homer to put Louisville ahead 3-1. Jake Munroe started the top of the fourth inning with a solo homer to left field, his third home run of the series.
Miami would retake the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jake Kulikowski hit an RBI single to cut the deficit to 4-2, and after a controversial foul ball call later resulted in Michael Torres reaching base, Jake Ogden hit a three-run homer into left field to put the Hurricanes ahead 5-4 after four innings.
Eddie King, Jr. tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the seventh inning, hitting his second home run of the game.
But the Hurricanes scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to retake the lead, and added a three-run homer from Daniel Cuvet in the eighth to put the game away.

But Walters retired the final three Louisville batters to close the game out.
Miami had 13 hits in game two, with Jake Ogden (3-for-5, 2B, HR, three RBIs) and Michael Torres (3-for-4, RBI) leading the team in hits. Max Galvin (2-for-5, 2B) and Jake Kulikowski (2-for-3, RBI) had multi-hit games, with Daniel Cuvet (1-for-4, HR, three RBIs) hitting a crucial three-run homer in the eighth inning.
Miami’s bullpen held Louisville at bay after their starter Griffin Hugus (3.0 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, K) exited the game. Rob Evans (0.2 IP, H), Carson Fischer (3.1 IP, H, ER, BB, 3 K), and Brian Walters (2.0 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, K) pitched the final six innings for the Hurricanes, with Walters earning his 11th save of the season.
Louisville was led by Eddie King, Jr., who went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs. Jake Munroe (1-for-4) hit his third home run of the series, with Lucas Moore (1-for-4, RBI, two SBs) getting his 50th stolen base of the season.
Louisville and Miami (FL) will play in a winner-take-all game three on Sunday at noon, airing on ESPN and 93.9 The Ville.
