Ones To Watch: Virginia

Welcome to this week’s edition of Ones to Watch. I will show you the statistical leaders on the team, talk to you about some things I observed on film, & whatever else catches my eye. I will not be stepping on JK’s toes for his EYNTK piece (much), but giving you a little to be on the lookout for. FYI, if you haven’t checked out EYNTK I suggest you do. It’s fantastic. Here we go…

The 4-1 Cavs are averaging a hefty 45.6 ppg after putting 55 on W&M & 48 on CCU. They have rushed for a total of only 1217 & thrown for 1481 through the air in five games. They are averaging a hefty 539 yards per game. Their starting QB, Chandler Morris, has the following stat line so far. He has completed 111-155 passes (71.6%), thrown 4 interceptions, 1279 yards, 10 TD’s with a long of 75. He is averaging 255 yards through the air per game this season The offense has only committed 5 turnovers so far with all being INT’s by Morris. They have fumbled often, but recovered all 5.

Receiving wise, Trell Harris (21 for 366 & 3 TD), Cam Ross (24 for 286 & 1 TD), & Jahmal Edrine (19 for 214 & 1 TD) are leading the way this season. On the ground, J’Mari Taylor (75 rushes for 397 yds & 7 TD) Harrison Waylee (30 rushes for 229 yds & 4 TD) & Xavier Brown (42 rushes for 206 yds & 1 TD) lead a very deep Running back room. The rest of the room has 68 rushes for 385 yards & 5 TD.

The defense has given up 657 yards on the ground & 1111 through the air for an average of 353 total ypg (131 rushing & 222 through the air). Neither should be hard to get to on Saturday. Virginia’s secondary is not the best.

Their defense has forced 7 turnovers this season scoring a total of 21 points. They have sacked the opposing QB 11 times this season. They are allowing an astounding 87% scoring in the red zone. UVA has given up 16 TD’s this season for an average of 3 per game. Their leading tacklers are Devin Neal (26), James Jackson (21), & Landon Daniel (21).
