Louisville MBB Recap: Cards Obliterate Panthers On The Road

Louisville put on a complete, wire-to-wire performance Saturday night, overwhelming Pittsburgh 100–59 in a dominant showing that highlighted the Cardinals’ offensive balance and defensive pressure. Louisville shot an efficient 63.2-percent from the floor and never allowed the Panthers to find any rhythm, turning the game into a rout well before the final horn.

Ryan Conwell led the way with a game high 24 points, knocking down five triples and adding six assists and six rebounds in an all around effort. J’Vonne Hadley was nearly flawless, scoring 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting while also contributing seven boards and five assists. Sananda Fru continued his strong interior play, finishing with 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting, as Louisville consistently punished Pittsburgh inside and out.

The Cardinals’ perimeter shooting proved overwhelming, as Louisville buried 15 of its 29 attempts from beyond the arc 51.7-percent. Isaiah McKneely and Adrian Wooley each chipped in 11 and 12 points, respectively, with Wooley perfect from the free throw line. Louisville also moved the ball effectively, totaling 24 assists on 36 made field goals, a reflection of the unselfishness that fueled the blowout.

Pittsburgh struggled to keep pace offensively, shooting just 38.2-percent overall and 29.2-percent from three. Brandon Cummings led the Panthers with 11 points off the bench, but no other Pittsburgh player reached double figures as Louisville’s defense forced tough looks throughout the night. The result marked one of the Cardinals’ most lopsided wins of the season and another statement performance as they look to continue to build momentum.

Louisville will have a week off before facing Virginia Tech at home next Saturday at 3:30 pm.
