Louisville MBB Recap: Cards Fly By Georgia Tech

The final horn sounded on a frustrating night for Georgia Tech, as Louisville pulled away for an 87–70 win in a game that ultimately hinged on shot-making and spacing. The Yellow Jackets shot a respectable 46-percent from the field and a blistering 92-percent at the line, but their struggles from deep just 3-of-18 (17-percent) proved too much to overcome.
Louisville, meanwhile, buried 14 three-pointers at a 45-percent clip, turning a competitive first half into a second half separation that Tech couldn’t erase.

Baye Ndongo did everything he could to keep the Jackets afloat. The junior forward finished with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting, adding seven rebounds and four assists in a versatile effort. His jumper with 16 seconds left marked Tech’s final field goal of the night, but by then the deficit had long been decided. Ndongo also battled on the glass, part of a 29 rebound team effort that nearly matched Louisville’s 30. Still, second chances were hard to come by in key stretches.

Georgia Tech showed flashes. A 14–0 run demonstrated the group’s ability to string together stops and convert in transition. Jaeden Mustaf added 12 points and was perfect from the line (6-for-6), while Lamar Washington chipped in 12 with a pair of three-pointers. However, the Jackets’ 17 turnovers leading to 22 Louisville points undercut any sustained momentum.

The Cardinals weren’t much cleaner with 18 giveaways of their own, yet their efficiency from the perimeter erased those mistakes.
Louisville’s balance stood out. Five players scored in double figures, led by 19 from Mikel Brown Jr. and 17 from J’Vonne Hadley. Perhaps most telling was the efficiency of guard Isaac McKneely, who went a perfect 4-for-4 from the field, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. He finished with 14 points. Every time Tech threatened to chip into the margin, Louisville answered with a timely three.

In the end, Georgia Tech never led. They only managed a brief 2–2 tie in the opening minute. The Jackets’ offense had its moments hitting four straight field goals during one late stretch but the math from behind the arc told the story. On a night when Louisville made 11 more three pointers, the margin on the scoreboard reflected it.
