LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville running back Keyjuan Brown and defensive back Kaleb Beasley each earned national honors on Tuesday.
Brown was named the Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week, while Beasley took home Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors on the defensive side.
Brown had a career day leading the way for the Cardinals in a 41-31 win over No. 16 SMU. The senior rushed for 163 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries, scoring on touchdown runs of 58 and 53 yards. His first score came on the second play of the third quarter and gave Louisville the lead. The second put the Cardinals up for good in the fourth quarter.
Beasley had a huge day of his own in the Louisville secondary. The junior led the Cards with 10 tackles in the win and picked off a pair of passes. Beasley hauled in an interception in the second quarter and then sealed the game with another in the fourth. Beasley and the Cardinals limited SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings to 222 passing yards and one touchdown after he entered the weekend as the national leader in total offense.
Brown, Beasley and the Cards play host to Wake Forest on Saturday. Kickoff is set for noon ET at L&N Stadium.
