If Saturday’s homecoming matchup against NC State isn’t enough for you, we’ve got another slate of games for you to watch with the playoff bid still alive. Here’s what we have suggested. Miami at Virginia Tech (Tonight, 7:00 pm, ESPN) In all likelihood, the winner of this will settle the ACC Coastal Division. If Virginia Tech wins, it will…

I am filling in for Mitch on the postgame recap, so let’s talk about the weird Friday night at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. Duke and head coach David Cutcliffe had an outstanding gameplan. It may have been more conservative and less flashy than what Louisville fans are accustomed to, but it nevertheless worked. Louisville did an excellent job…
Last Time: The Duke Blue Devils marched to a 13-point lead in the second half, but behind Damion Lee’s 24 points, the Cardinals were able to rally back and take a 71-64 win over the Blue Devils, avenging their loss two weeks earlier at Cameron Indoor Arena. Wait a minute, this is football we’re talking about here. Duke…
We are officially halfway through the season, and Louisville has surpassed all expectations and become a legitimate College Football Playoff contender. However, Louisville may – or may not – need some help down the road to complete its first ever playoff bid. And with only four teams entering the playoff, the air is going to get incredibly thin at the…
Last Time: In a primetime Thursday night thriller, Louisville fell short against the Tigers 20-17. Louisville cut the lead in the fourth quarter on a 100-yard return from Traveon Samuel, and had one final possession to tie the game after missing a field goal. However, a botched snap in field goal range and an intercepted…
Last Time: After defeating Kentucky for the first time since 2011, Teddy Bridgewater made his first career start against the Marshall Thundering Herd. In spite of having a halftime lead, Marshall rallied with 10 points in the second half to pull off a 17-13 comeback win in Louisville. Louisville leads the all-time series 16-12, but Marshall has won the last four…
Last Time: After Louisville held a 7-6 halftime lead, Florida State responded with 35 second-half points to overpower Louisville in a 41-21 win in Tallahassee. Everett Golson led the way with 372 yards and three touchdowns, while Dalvin Cook ended up with 163 yards and two touchdowns. Lamar Jackson led the way for Louisville with a season-high 307 yards…
Last Time: After trailing 10-7 to end the first quarter, Louisville rallied to score 34 unanswered in the following three quarters to blow out the Orange 41-17. Kyle Bolin netted a season high 362 yards and three touchdowns, and Trumaine Washington had a 39 yard interception return for a touchdown to start the scoring spree for…
Coming off of an up-and-down 2015 season, capped with Louisville winning eight of their final ten games including the Music City Bowl, the #19 Cardinals open the 2016 season against the Charlotte 49ers. This is the first time both teams will have played each other in football, and both teams enter their openers with completely different…
Last Season: With Lorenzo Mauldin leaving for the NFL, Louisville recruited former Big XII Defensive Player of the Year Devonte Fields to replace him. While Fields struggled in the first half of the season to find some rhythm, he eventually led the team with 10.5 sacks last season, including 7.5 in the final three games against Pitt,…
Last Season: With a ton of seniors graduating from the program last season, Louisville turned to a plethora of young, raw receivers to turn some production for the passing game. Jamari Staples, in spite of missing half the season due to injury, led all receivers with 638 yards and three touchdowns, while James Quick led…
Last Season: After a stellar 2014 season from the position, the running backs suffered a setback in 2015, with inconsistencies at quarterback and offensive line weighing them down. While four different running backs had 100-yard games in the 2014 season, only Brandon Radcliff had 100-yard games from the position in 2015 (117 against Syracuse, 146 against…
Last season: Plain and simple, this was a young group that experienced some major growing pains last season. Louisville started a lot of freshmen at basically every position on the line except for center (which, ironically, was manned by an upperclassmen). In spite of their youth, and facing some top notch defensive lines like Texas A&M and Clemson,…
In this ten-part series, we look at the starters and key players for each position. Starting today, we cover the special teams guys with kickers and punters. Last Season: John Wallace was 15-of-21 last season, but missed two crucial late game field goals that would have tied the game against Houston and Clemson. He had a season-long…
There was a Magic School Bus that I remember as a kid, where Ralphie was lining up to bat in a dream to open the episode. “Bottom of the ninth, two outs, bases loaded and a home run wins the World Series.” Before you know it, Ralphie was snapped out of his dream and back…
In one of the most anticipated days in Louisville baseball history after the Ali funeral service on Friday, Louisville could not be blessed. Untimely hits allowed and multiple runners left on base doomed the Cardinals (50-13), resulting in a 4-2 win for UC-Santa Barbara. The loss for Louisville is only the Cardinals’ second at home all-season,…
We are gearing up for the Super Regional in Louisville this weekend, and the Cardinals will have another Big West opponent to face in order to advance to their fourth College World Series. Last weekend, Louisville went a perfect 3-0 in their regional, beating Western Michigan 6-1 on Friday, Ohio State 15-3 on Saturday, and…
There are few men in a generation, perhaps in the history of humanity, that live a life so large and grand, it’s almost impossible to fathom how great they were. And no matter how many times you hear the same stories over and over again, it always stands the test of time. One Cassius Clay,…
Welcome back to Around the Bases, where we look at the week ahead for Louisville baseball as they officially begin their march to their fourth College World Series appearance. After ending the regular season on a nine-game winning streak against UNC, Vanderbilt, N.C. State, Indiana and Wake Forest, the Cards bowed out of the ACC…
Welcome back to another edition of Around the Bases, where we look at what’s ahead for Louisville baseball. And fortunately for Louisville, things are looking very positive for this baseball team. The Cardinals defeated Indiana 9-2, finishing with a 33-1 record at home this season. Kade McClure improved his undefeated record to 11-0 this…
