Cardinal News & Notes: Sunday Afternoon Edition

*Men’s Basketball: It was a very ugly game yesterday against Notre Dame as the Fighting Irish won 67-65 in double overtime. The game was tied at 50 after regulation, which shows how much offense there was. It was a game of turnovers and missed free throws for the Cards. They had 18 turnovers and were 17-27 from the free throw line.

UofL dropped to 13-3, but more importantly dropped to 1-2 in the Big East. Notre Dame improved to 10-6 and 2-1 on the season. Kyle Kuric played all 50 minutes and had 17 points and 10 rebounds. Chane Behanan played 40 minutes and also had 17 points and 10 rebounds. Gorgui Dieng had a solid game, except that foul trouble limited him. In 27 minutes he had 11 points and 7 rebounds.

Overall, it was just a sloppy and ugly game, but one that the Cards could not afford to lose. They are a more talented team than Notre Dame, plus it was a home game. Hopefully they can turn things around, and soon.

*Women’s Basketball: The women lost today against St. John’s. The Cards are now 13-3 and 2-1 in the Big East. Their next game is Wednesday vs USF at 7:00 in the KFC Yum! Center.

*Men’s Tennis: The tennis team has played well in the Orlando Invitational. On day 2 of the event, they picked up 14 wins. The event runs through today.

*Track & Field: Both men and women had a good day yesterday to begin their indoor season in Bloomington, IN. The women had 15 Big East qualifying marks, and the men added 9 Big East qualifying marks.
