Cardinal News & Notes: Weekend Recap

*Men’s Basketball– The 25th ranked Cards got off to a great start, and then held on to beat Seton Hall on the road 60-51. They improve to 17-5, 5-4 in the Big East. Read the full CSZ recap here. They are now off until next Saturday when they host Rutgers (12-10, 4-5) at 4:00 at the KFC Yum! Center.

*Women’s Basketball– The 16/14 ranked Cardinals beat Villanova 62-58 on Saturday and are now 17-4, 6-2 in the Big East, which is tied for 3rd with Rutgers. Check out the full standings here. They now hit the road for two games this week. They face DePaul (16-6, 4-4) on Tuesday and West Virginia (15-6, 5-3) on Saturday.

*Swimming & Diving– On the men’s side, 11th ranked UofL upset the 10th ranked Hoosiers 165.6-134.5. The 19th ranked women lost to the 8th ranked Hoosiers 165-128. Next up for the men and women is rival Kentucky, which will be this Friday at 2:00 at the Ralph Wright Natatorium at UofL.

*Track & Field– UofL had 16 more athletes qualify for the Big East League Championships this weekend when they competed in Bloomington, IN. The Cards will split squads next weekend, with part of the team heading to the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational and the other group heading to the VT Elite Meet. Both events are February 3 and 4.

*Tennis– The men’s team went 0-2 this weekend, losing to Washington and to VCU in Durham, NC. They are back in action this Thursday at Michigan. The women’s team beat Austin Peay on Saturday. They are off until next Sunday, when they host Purdue at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
