Cardinal News & Notes: Weekend Recap

It was a busy weekend for UofL sports, as a lot of teams were in action. Here is a quick rundown of how the weekend went for the Cards!

*Denny Crum Contest– We appreciate all of the entries, and it was tough to pick a winner, because they were all good. With that being said, Jennifer Keller’s entry about her boyfriend Todd Franks was chosen as the winner. Thank you for all the feedback for this contest. Hopefully we will have more fun contests soon!

*Men’s Basketball– The Cards (ranked 25th at posting time) won their 4th game in a row, defeating Rutgers 78-66. Check out the CSZ recap here.  They are now 18-5, 6-4 and face UConn (15-7, 5-5) tonight at 7:00 on ESPN. Full preview coming later.

*Women’s Basketball– The Cards fell to 17-6, 6-4 after losing to West Virginia (17-6, 7-3) 66-50. They have a huge game on Tuesday night, as #3 UConn comes to the KFC Yum! Center for a game at 7:00. Let’s pack the house for this one!

*Swimming & Diving– Both the men and women dominated rival Kentucky on Friday afternoon at the Ralph Wright Natatorium. The men defeated UK 188-107, and the women won 183-107. They now get ready for the Big East Diving Championship on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Pittsburgh, PA.

*Track & Field– The team split up and competed in South Bend, IN and in Blacksburg, VA. At the end of the weekend, the Cards now have a total of 22 league qualifying marks for the men, and 30 qualifying marks for the women. They are now off for two weeks until the Big East Indoor Championships Feb 18-19 in New York, NY.

*Tennis– The men defeated Minnesota 6-1 on Saturday. They return to action on Thursday as they host Ohio St. at 4:00. The women lost to Purdue 5-2 on Sunday. They host Furman on Friday at 3:00.
