Charlie Strong’s 2013 recruiting class is shaping up to be one of the more talented we have ever had at the University of Louisville. One position that the Cardinals are not looking to load up on in this class is receiver. With that being said, it looks like Charlie Strong is looking to land 2 WR’s in the class of 2013. One of these scholarships is obviously being saved for the #3 WR in the country and Louisville (Trinity) native James Quick, but who will be the first to commit and take the other?
The Candidates
Marquez Valdes (FL) 6’3 190 lbs
Valdes has flown under the radar, but after some impressive showings at recent USF and FSU camps, some said Valdes was the most impressive receiver at those camps. Standing at 6’3 and clocked at a 4.5 40, Valdes would come in and give UofL another towering receiver to go along with 6’3 DeVante Parker. UofL offered Valdes last week and now he is talking about making a decision in the coming days.
Decision Date: ? “Coming days”
Deciding Between: UofL, Iowa St., and Toledo
Corey Cooper (NC) 5’11 191 lbs
Cooper is the only receiver of the 3 that UofL has not offered as of yet. Cooper recently took a visit to UofL where I, along with most others, expected Cooper to walk away with an offer. Cooper is a slot-sized receiver with not so great speed, but what he lacks in speed he makes up for with his great hands. Cooper is an excellent football player, but the lack of an offer leads many to believe that UofL may be adding Clemson transfer Bryce McNeal in the coming days.
Decision Date: August 17
Deciding Between: UofL, NC St., UK, South Carolina, and Miami
Jeff Badet (FL) 5’11 160 lbs
In an interview with CSZ on July 2, Badet told us that UofL was the leader for his services, but after a recent USF offer, that no longer seems to be the case. To be completely honest, it will come as a shock to many if Badet goes anywhere other than USF at this point. But with Strong, Hurtt, and company, I’ve come to learn that you never count out the Cards.
