This recruiting piece was put together by our guy Steve Rummage. He updates you on the top recruiting stories for UofL in men’s and women’s basketball, as well as football! Enjoy, and Go Cards!
Men’s Basketball
September 7-10 – Not only will we be coming off a nice win against rival UK and looking to start 2-0 against Missouri State, but believe it or not, basketball may be the biggest story of the weekend. Consensus top 10 player, 5* PG Anthony “Cat” Barber (NC) and top 3 Center, 4* Marcus Lee (CA) will both be on campus for official visits. Should be a very energetic crowd at the game so make sure to show these two some love. It is unknown at the time if these will be the only two in on that weekend, but we will have more on this huge recruiting weekend in the days to come.
Beejay Anya– This top ranked 2013 C has a long list of possible destinations. It had seemed UL had backed out of the Anya sweepstakes as most believe he is Indiana bound, but word is Anya will cut his list to 7 in the coming days and start taking visits. The Cards are expected to make that list. (@BAnya_Allday)
Akoy Agau –The 3* big man out of Nebraska has said he will for sure visit Louisville, Georgetown, and WVU in the coming months. Don’t sleep on the 3* ranking. Agau is a very versatile Center that is tailor made for a Pitino offense. (@ZeroTheHeroAkoy)
Women’s Basketball
How about some props for Coach Jeff Walz! The top recruit in the land Mercedes Russell is down to UL and Tennessee and many believe UL could be the team to beat. In addition to her, Walz has UL in great shape with Top 25 F Emmonie Henderson, Top 20 PG Saniya Chong, and top 50 F Alexandra Harris. Big things on the way for UL WBB!
Football
Kyle Bolin on ESPNU– Saturday August 25th at 9PM, CardNation will have a chance to check out 2013 QB commit Kyle Bolin on ESPNU. Bolin and Lexington Catholic will take on the top ranked team in Tennessee Ensworth Academy. Ensworth will feature 4* RB Cornelius Elder. Should be great for Bolin as well as Strong and the Cards.
Top 4? – 6’3, 3* WR Marquez Valdes (FL) says he has narrowed his choices to 4: Louisville, WVU, Toledo, and Houston. I believe UL has the upper hand in this one; it will all depend on how many WR Strong and company want to take. 3* Corey Cooper is already committed and 5* James Quick says UL leads for his services but IMO you can’t have enough great athletes on a team.
4* DT Derrick Calloway– The 6’1 300 pounder says Arkansas, USC, Texas Tech, and UL lead for his services.
UK Game Visitors– An official list of visitors should be released in the coming days but you can guarantee all of the top players locally committed or uncommitted will be at the game.
