Louisville athletics are back in action this weekend with many teams in the “heart” of their Big East schedule. Although most teams are on the road this weekend there are still several programs in action locally . The cross country team (mens and womens) are set to host the Greater Louisville Classic this Saturday, Sept.29th, at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park. The event is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. The Louisville baseball team is scheduled to continue its weekend scrimmages this Friday and Saturday. The Friday scrimmage will begin at 2:45 p.m. and the Saturday scrimmage at 2 p.m. Both scrimmages will be held at Jim Patterson Stadium and are free to attend.
Most of the athletic programs are on the road this weekend in Big East action. Most notably, although a non-conference game, the Louisville football program (4-0) travels to Southern Mississippi to take on the Golden Eagles (0-3) this Saturday, Sept.29. Louisville last faced Southern Miss. two years ago in the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s bowl, in which the Cardinals won 31-28. With a win the Cardinals would improve their record to 5-0 for the first time since 2006. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
After an impressive victory against St.Johns in which the team scored six goals, the women’s soccer team (7-2-1) prepares for two Big East matches this weekend. The Cardinals start the weekend with a Friday night match at Marquette and conclude the weekend with a long trip to South Florida for a Sunday afternoon match against the Bulls.
Coming off a Big East victory and upset of formerly 7th-ranked Notre Dame, mens soccer (5-3) travels to take on Rutgers in a Saturday night match. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The 25th-ranked field hockey team (7-3) faces two challenging road tests this weekend. The Cardinals first game is Saturday against Big East opponent and top-ranked Syracuse. The Cardinals then conclude the weekend with a Sunday afternoon game against 23rd-ranked Albany.
Coming off only their second loss of the season, the 17th-ranked volleyball team (12-2) looks to bounce back this weekend in a pair of Big East road matches. The Cardinals start the weekend with a Friday night match against South Florida. The Cardinals will conclude the weekend with a Sunday afternoon match against Pittsburgh.
