For the fourth time in school history, the University of Louisville men’s golf team captured the 2013 Cardinal Intercollegiate Tuesday at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky. Antoine LeSaux led the Cardinals with a third-place finish. Click link for full press release.
The Cardinals, who served as the tournament hosts, won the event for second-straight season, besting second-place Mercer by four shots.
Louisville shot 284-283-293=860 for the two-day event, while the Bears shot 298-284-282=864. Austin Peay was third at 291-283-295=869, while Furman took fourth at 295-292-285=872 and Cincinnati came in fifth at 290-293-290=873.
Western Carolina’s J.T. Poston was the tournament’s medalist, shooting a 9-under par 207, four strokes ahead of McNesse State’s Hampus Bergman, who shot 211.
The Cardinals lost 10 strokes from Monday, but hung on to win their first tournament of the fall season.
Antoine LeSaux led the Cardinals with a third-place finish, carding a 4-under par 212. Robert Geibelwas also in the top 10, firing a 2-under par 214 to give Louisville two players in the top 10.
The Cardinals had two players tie for 12th overall in Robin Sciot-Siegristand Max Walz, as they each shot a 1-over 217.
Trevor Slumanrounded out the top five with a 52nd-place overall finish, carding a 14-over par 230.
“It was a great team win,” head coach Mark Crabtree said. “I’m real pleased with the guys. The effort was outstanding. Antoine (Le Saux), Robbie (Geibel), Robin (Sciot-Siegrist), and Max (Walz) all in the top 12 was real exciting.”
The Cardinals’ fall season continues at the Brickyard Collegiate in Macon, Ga., on Oct. 4-6.
